I recently redesigned StaticGen, a list of the top open-source static site generators, and in the process I migrated it from Webpop to Middleman + BitBalloon.
Static site generators has become a big interest of mine, I think we're just on the cusp on seeing lots of agencies and startups moving away from dynamic CMS solutions towards static sites built with some sort of generator.
StaticGen gave me a great testbed to experiment with how to make something like a dynamic ranking site with a static site generator and the end result turned out great. The site will automatically get rebuilt twice a day with the newest data from the Github API, all the code for it is hosted on Github and everytime I merge in a pull request, statigen.com gets rebuilt from the Github repo.
